TIDEWATER PRIMITIVE BAPTIST CHURCH

NORFOLK, VIRGINIA

Our Articles Of Faith At Tidewater PBC:

I.  We believe in one true and living God, and that there are three that bear record in Heaven: the Father, the Word or Son, and the Holy Ghost, and these three are one.

II.  We believe that the scriptures of the Old and New Testament are the written, revealed word of God, and the only rule of faith and practice.

III.  We believe in the doctrine of a particular and eternal election of the saints to glory.

IV.  We believe in the doctrine of original sin, that is, Adam willfully transgressed the law of God and thereby plunged himself and all his posterity into total depravity.

V.  We believe in man's impotency to recover himself from the fallen state he is in by nature, by his own free will and ability.

VI.  We believe that sinners are justified in the sight of God only by the imputed righteousness of Christ.

VII.  We believe that God's elect are sanctified by God the Father, preserved in Jesus Christ, and called and comforted by the Holy Ghost.

VIII.  We believe that the saints of God are saved by grace, by which they are also kept and preserved and shall not finally fall away but are ready to be revealed at the last time.

IX.  We believe that Baptism and the Lord's Supper are ordinances of Jesus Christ. The example of feet washing was given to the church by our Lord. True believers are the only proper subjects for these ordinances. The scriptural mode of Baptism is immersion.

X.  We believe in the resurrection of the dead and a general judgement.

XI.  We believe that the punishment of the wicked and the joys of the righteous will be everlasting, eternal, and equal in duration.

XII.  We believe that no minister has the right to administer the ordinances except as are regularly called and have come under the impostion of the hands of a presbytery.

XIII.  We believe that the Grace of God, that bringeth salvation, teaches us, that denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, that we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in this present world; and that is the duty of all Church members to be jointly and severally, engaged in every good work for the glory of God and the honor of their Christian religion.

XIV.  We believe that God predestinated a people to be conformed to the image of His Son. Their names are written in the Lamb's Book of Life. They are redeemed out of every kindred, tongue, people, and nation. But we do not advocate the extreme doctrine of predestination-- that is, that God did, in eternity, before time, predetermine, fix, or decree everything that comes to pass in time, sin and wickedness, not excepted. Nor will we allow this doctrine to be taught in our church.

XV.  We believe that God's children are known as the elect and that they were chosen in Christ before the foundation of the world to become the heirs of grace. We believe that they will all individually at the Lord's appointed time be born of the Spirit of God, which we refer to as being born again or born from above. We believe this takes place when they, as the elect of God, yet dead in sin, hear the voice of the Son of God. They then are spiritually alive by the life giving power of His voice. We believe that this is done independently of any and all other means. We do not believe that the proclamation of the gospel has ever been or will ever be used to give life to one dead in sin. We believe that only those who are born again are able to hear, believe, and obey from the heart the preached gospel of the Kingdom of God. We believe the gospel is sent to feed, instruct, encourage, and edify those whom God hath made alive by the power of His voice.
